 JAKARTA (KB) – Presidential hopeful Anies Baswedan has emphasized the need to restore the role of Bulog as an extension of the government in stabilizing the supply and prices of basic necessities, particularly rice.

“The role of Bulog, especially in the food sector, is very important for us to restore as an extension of the government to maintain the stability of the selling price like farmers’ rice. This is the key [an extension of the government],” Anies stated firmly.

 Perum Bulog isa public company owned by the state which operates in food logistics.The Anies-Gus Imin (AMIN) duo has 8 missions or 8 paths of change. The first mission is to ensure the availability of basic needs and affordable living costs through food self-sufficiency, energy resilience, and water sovereignty.

In realizing the mission of food self-sufficiency, the AMIN pair will carry out an “Agromaritime Revolution” where for certain agricultural products, farmers will not need to worry about the market and selling price, allowing them to focus on increasing productivity.

Moreover, within this mission, AMIN will ensure that the market and selling prices are facilitated by the government through transparent and accountable trade management to achieve farmer welfare, through several steps.

First, providing certainty of crop purchases at prices profitable to farmers, including through contract farming.

Second, increasing the stabilization of crop selling prices including through the optimization of warehouse receipts.

Third, providing affordable and accessible financing to help increase food production yields and improve the livelihoods of farmers, planters, and breeders at every stage of production.
